SUMMARY
This issue publishes «The Praying Mantis Meal», a tale by Vasilina Orlova, and «Alphavita», «a book of correspondences» by Andrey Volos (the ending). Also: stories by Boris Yekimov as well as «In Bakunin’s Whereabouts» — an essay by Vasily Golovanov. The poetry section of this issue is made up of the new poems by Anna Gedymin, Grigory Kruzhkov, Yevgeny Kluyev and Aleksandr Klimov-Yuzhyn. The sectional offerings are as follows: Close and Distant: «The Academician Stechkin Case and The «Promparty» Trial» — an article by Anatoly Khomyakov, and «The Devotee» — an article by Vladimir Desyatnikov discussing two outstanding figures in the field of Russian science and culture who fulfilled their moral and professional obligations under Stalin repressions. Comment: «I am Painting Pictures that will Blow the Society Up» — an article by Alla Latynina on the painter Maksim Cantor’s novel «The Drawing Textbook». Literary Critique: «The Double-bottom Box Secret» — Alla Marchenko’s polemic on anti-Stalin verses by Osip Mandelshtam to continue the point raised by Aleksandr Kushner.
